Mentor Graphics Selects XcelleNet to Control RIM BlackBerrys

XcelleNet Supports Deployment of Popular Wireless Handheld Device With Security Enforcement, Asset Tracking, and Instant Notification

ATLANTA, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- XcelleNet, Inc., the leading provider of management solutions for the distributed enterprise, today announced that Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT - news), a world leader in electronic hardware and software design solutions, has selected XcelleNet to provide device management and security for the company's deployment of BlackBerry handhelds to its North American Sales and Consulting Divisions.

Research in Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry is a wireless email solution designed to keep enterprise communications constantly flowing between centralized information resources and mobile workers out in the field. By adding XcelleNet functionality to the device, Mentor Graphics IT administrators can track the location of each BlackBerry, determine what software is running on each device, monitor critical security standards such as password policy compliance, and check device conditions such as memory usage and battery capacity.

Administrators can also send alerts to the field that are immediately visible on the BlackBerry screen. This way, critical information is displayed to users without requiring them to open an email first. If the handheld is lost or stolen, IT can also "lockdown" the device remotely so information is inaccessible to unauthorized users.

After determining that BlackBerry was indeed the device of choice to support sales and consulting employees, Mentor Graphics turned to XcelleNet to make comprehensive management for the BlackBerry a reality. XcelleNet helps companies manage mobile devices, applications and content from a central location, drawing upon its fifteen year history of offering management capabilities no matter where systems or devices are located or how they communicate with the enterprise.

"As an early adopter of RIM Blackberry technology, Mentor Graphics has made key IT infrastructure decisions ahead of the curve, including the decision to deploy XcelleNet's management solution," said Tom Herzog, Communications Tools Manager for Mentor Graphics. "In addition, Mentor Graphics has developed a unique insight into the issues and challenges facing a distributed enterprise when deploying wireless handhelds for business use."

Growing Need for Mobile Management

With sales of PDAs and smartphones into the enterprise market increasing and the availability of higher-bandwidth wireless networks imminent, IT departments are facing larger handheld deployments that will need to be controlled. XcelleNet's solutions address device security, data synchronization, asset management and configuration management, all while ensuring the smartest use of available bandwidth. As a result, IT has control over mobile deployments as they scale, while protecting the integrity and productivity of mobile business processes.

"As an early adopter of wireless technology, Mentor Graphics has shown foresight in anticipating the challenges of managing mobile devices out in the field," said Jethro Felton, SVP - Sales and Business Development at XcelleNet. "We are pleased that our product has been chosen by such an innovative company and look forward to working with Mentor Graphics to find more and better ways to use management technology to assure greater success in the marketplace."
